MC-Max Milling Machine is built on the MC-X Platform, meaning you get maximum flexibility to set up your mill for the way you work. Choose from entry-level systems that follow a reference; or fuller-featured solutions that track your milling machine in 3D and enable automated variable depth milling for ultimate road smoothness.

Variable depth milling

Traditional milling techniques often involve taking off a fixed depth of the old surface to prepare for the application of a new layer of asphalt. This may result in a wavy or uneven road maintaining its former shape even after it is repaved.

Variable depth milling automatically adjusts the mill’s blade height to average the high and low points for a smoother road with a longer projected lifespan. This technique is especially valuable and provides a better driving experience over longer distances.

3D milling options

Our 3D milling systems use Millimeter GPS, GNSS, or robotic total stations to position and report on the machine’s location. This reduces reliance on string lines or other references and accelerates the milling process. Files used during the 3D milling process are often usable at the paving or compaction stages of a road project. In addition, 3D milling tends to ease the downstream burdens on paving and compacting teams.

2D milling options

Sometimes following the well-traveled road is the right approach. Our 2D milling systems use sonic trackers or other sensors to follow string lines, existing surfaces, or curbs. Mill and fill (also known as mill and overlay) projects or relatively consistent paved surfaces are good uses of this technology

Virtual Ski is made for federal and country roads and others where there are fewer fixed points to match. Simply scan the surface and let the milling machine do the design job. Our 3D-MC milling software lets you replace analog Multiplex-Ski, Big Ski or Sonic Ski models and offset the Virtual Ski from 4 to 100 m off your chosen alignment, even on sharp curves. The result is a reduction in ski installation downtime and an even base where pavers can be set to a consistent thickness.
